The evening of 2026-06-09 was a meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education (BoE).
Time to hear about this years Alumni Hall of Fame inductees. I always get a kick out of the presenters asking us to keep the new Hall of Fame members secret. It’s at a public meeting, in front of an audience and being both recorded and streamed live. Not a situation conductive to keeping secrets. But I’ll humor Kelly and John, no naming the inductees here.
I will say one of them is deceased. Which is unfortunate overall. But I am of the opinion Hall of Fame and similar recognition should only be awarded posthumously. I would prefer this individual still be alive, accomplishing things that can later be celebrated. But since he isn’t, I am glad he is being recognized now.
Also periodic Cougar Pride Award Recipient Recognition tonight. Always nice to see people recognized for their involvement. But some of the recognitions could have used a few less words. Although, if you are going to use lots of words at a meeting, what better use than thanking someone for a job well done.
Also cupcakes. If any of you need enticement to show up and applaud, for next time.
As always, the Sports Boosters are looking for help staffing the Chow Hut. Which in turn, helps fund HFL sports. If any of you want to help out, I’m sure they would welcome your interest.
The Inspire art show is displaying student art at the Jody Baker Studio. If you didn’t get enough art from Cougar Creations, might be worth stopping by and taking a look.
Colin (Business) presented on the District’s Reserve Plan. A comment was made on how this is a good snapshot of how the District saves money, by planning ahead. While much of the future is unknown, we can reliably predict there will be expenses. Seems prudent to plan for them, at least to the extent practical.
The Code of Conduct was approved, after going over the updates to the academic ineligibility process. Sounds like the concerns from last meeting were addressed.
As next years budget was recently approved by the voters, a number of proposed actions could now be taken. In particular, some positions were formally abolished and excess Tax Certiorari Reserve was returned to general fund.
This years budget was amended, due to a Bond Anticipation Note (BAN). Put simply, the BAN generated some interest, and that interest was being used to pay down some of the debt. Which tells me the interest gained was less then the interest charged for debt. Otherwise, there would be no need to pay off the debt. But since that’s not how debt works, best to pay it off as quickly as possible.
Not much to discuss in the Campus Construction Monthly Report, as this happens each month. But, for those interested, the end of the report contains pictures of the project as it continues along.
And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the June 09, 2026 meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education.
Agenda’s and similar information can be found at HFL’s BoardDocs page. While a recording is also available.
