The evening of 2024-09-30 was a meeting of the Mendon Town Board.
The Tentative Budget for 2025 was presented. Currently projecting a flat tax rate, which is to say a 0% increase. Now things can change before the Final Budget is adopted, but this is where things are at now. To be clear, this is for the Town. As was pointed out, other entities also tax property, and their rates are less likely to remain flat.
The presentation included increasing a number of expenses. All good there, I offer no criticism on those items. But I was wondering what was lowered in order to balance things out. After all, if income remains flat, and certain expenses increase, basic math demands other expenses be decreased. I didn’t hear what those decreases where during the presentation. But again, it’s Tentative. Still time to have those questions answered.
The Mendon Youth Center opens to the kids tomorrow. Details will likely be announced on the Town’s website. If you’ve got children the appropriate age they may have heard something at school already. By the sounds of it, the school offers a ride to the Youth Center.
With summer heat behind us, the Splash Park has closed for the season. I’m sure summer will return in due time, but first? Winter is coming.
A pair of items were tabled, until additional input can be provided by the Highway Superintendent. While there can be value in taking timely action, there is also value in gathering the relevant information before taking action. Don’t want to delay too long, but as the saying goes, haste makes waste.
And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the September 30, 2024 meeting of the Mendon Town Board.
