No Meetings 2026-07-06

The evening of 2026-07-06 a meeting of the Honeoye Falls Zoning Board was scheduled. But it was canceled/postponed.

Per the Village’s website, the meeting was postponed so the applicant would have more time to review comments and such. As I’m a ‘trust but verify’ kind of guy, I attempted to go to the meeting anyway. Village office was all locked up, and high school auditorium was rather dark. As expected, but it was an excuse to go for a walk.

No date was shared for when the meeting was being rescheduled for. Considering the past, I would speculate 7/27. By all means, check the Village’s website to be sure. I can look at patterns and make predictions, but not establish the future.

Assuming 7/27 is set, it would be rather ironic. As that is a fourth Monday. Back before the Village merged their Planning and Zoning Boards, fourth Monday’s were when the Zoning Board met. When they merged, they chose the Planning Board’s meeting dates (first Monday). But if they do reschedule for 7/27, that will have made two months in a row on the old schedule. Which I would find amusing, especially if it continues.

I believe at one point, also scheduled for tonight was a meeting of the Mendon Public Library Board of Trustees. But that was apparently rescheduled for last Wednesday (7/1). I would assume the intent was so they could attend the expected Zoning Board meeting tonight.

I would have liked to make it to that meeting, but somehow I missed the change in date. Which has me wondering, was it a last minute change I had no reasonable way to know about? Or did I not notice when I read the next meeting announcement?

Either way, is a shame I missed the meeting. If only to have some context to the “Letter of Engagement for Legal Services“. Because it looks like the Library hired (is hiring? again, context) a lawyer to point at the proposed development in front of them. Yes, I’m sure part of that discussion would have been in executive session. But I suspect whatever portion was public would have been interesting. That the Library is even looking at legal counsel for this feels noteworthy.

Although I do find the Library’s date shift ironic here too. Back before the current library was built, they used to meet on Tuesday. I want to say first Tuesday’s, but it’s long enough ago I can’t say for sure. Regardless, it was a Tuesday that usually didn’t collide with a School Board of Education meeting. I don’t know why they changed their pattern, but they did.

So yes, both of the Boards that were at one point scheduled to meet tonight, used to have meeting schedules that didn’t collide. Until, they both changed their meeting patterns. They didn’t change patterns at the same time, but they did both change. And have been colliding with each other ever since.

I will fully acknowledge that meetings aren’t scheduled for my benefit. But I do like it when they stick to their schedules. So they can be predicted and planned for well in advance. Not having to shuffle things around at the last minute. Still, grumbling about meetings being rescheduled is oddly nostalgic.

Which is itself ironic. Because, as noted ~9 years ago, legal actions taken by residents might have been the cause for the Village to adjust their meeting schedules. And here we have the Library looking at a lawyer. History may not be repeating itself, but perhaps it is preparing to rhyme.

And those are my Observations From Audience Land (such as they are) for a pair of meetings that didn’t actually happen on July 06, 2026. But were, at one point, scheduled to.
