Honeoye Falls Village Board 2025-06-16

The evening of 2025-06-16 was a meeting of the Honeoye Falls Board of Trustees.

The bell at the top of Village Hall went off exactly at 7PM. I only mention this because it’s been an ongoing joke for a while, how it tends to be off a minute or two. Personally, I’ve never minded. If we weren’t carrying digital clocks in our pockets, it’s close enough we wouldn’t have noticed.

The Public Hearing to spend up to $5500 on patchwork repairs to the Fire Department roof was approved. Even as it was acknowledged that before too long the whole roof will likely need to be ripped off and replaced. But until then, have to keep it functioning well enough. Feels like I should make a joke about firemen always wanting more water while on the job, not inside their stations.

Multiple grants for the wastewater treatment plant are being pursued. It sounds like there is hope that, between them all, the planned project will have no direct taxpayer impact. Indirect, yes, as everything is paid by taxpayers in the end.

Towards getting the grants, they will be looking for letters from residents. Framing wasn’t offered, but I think it’s something around feedback from residents on how wastewater treatment plants are important. Or something like that. I’m sure details will follow, as they reach the point they actually want the letters. Or you could be proactive and ask.

They are looking to go with an SBR style plant. I am assuming that means ‘Sequencing Batch Reactor‘, but it was not explicitly said. Either way, this would be a new method for the Village, even if the technique has been around a good while.

12 North Main street received an interesting NOT variance. I say NOT because it sounded like an area variance. The Board went through what felt like a zoning variance process (minus environmental impact, because there is obviously none). Yet the zoning code puts this topic in this Board’s lap, not the Zoning Board. Reminds me of a conversation I had yesterday. The law is always imperfect, as it was made by imperfect people. If it’s bad enough, get it changed. But until then, work with it as is. In this case? On it’s own, not worth worrying about. But I could see adding this to a list of minor tweaks for the next time the code is given an overhaul.

As for 20 North Main, there appears to be a medical facility of some sort looking at the property. No details given as to who, what, etc. Just interest that sounded serious.

As the Harry Allen Park renovations continue, the bricks will be removed. If one of them is you/your loved ones, the Village should be saving them for you to collect. Details not mentioned, but if you have one, you probably go by the park often enough to notice when they are removed. At which time, asking should get you pickup details.

And mandated time off for covid will be sun-setting. It will now be treated like any other illness, at least by the Village. Which is about time, as far as I’m concerned.

And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the June 16, 2025 meeting of the Honeoye Falls Board of Trustees.
