Honeoye Falls Village Board 2024-10-21

The evening of 2024-10-21 was a meeting of the Honeoye Falls Board of Trustees.

What stood out the most to me tonight was the shuffling of roles and responsibilities that is the expected fallout of Brian’s retirement. This came up in multiple ways, touching most of the Village’s operations. In a general sense, it felt like a shuffling exercise. Reassign roles to existing staff, and fill gaps with whoever was under them. By the sounds of it, they know who they want to do what. Now it’s into the logistics and training for the changes, which may well take some time. But that’s life, always change to adapt to.

Commentary on the expected OSHA changes to firefighters was offered. If I understood it correctly, OSHA will be raising the standards in an attempt to prevent financial issues (from lawsuits and similar). But it sounds like this may well have the side effect of killing volunteer fire departments. Penny wise, pound foolish?

The Village will be holding presentation on the fire department status and potential changes, for the public to offer input at. I heard 11/7 and 11/13, 7PM at the Presbyterian church. But if the topic interests you, make sure to get the time/location confirmed. Or you could just show up, worse places to spend an evening then church.

Critics will be off the market soon. Not sold yet, but the Village is reviewing options. Sounds like they are considering shuffling lot lines, or maybe demolishing the structure. Either way, taking the ‘for sale’ sign down is a first step to exercising that sort of flexibility. I fulling expect it to be back up for sale before too long. And if you really wanted to buy it, well you could always call the office. I suspect they would be open to discussion, even if the property isn’t ‘officially’ for sale at the time.

And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the October 21, 2024 meeting of the Honeoye Falls Board of Trustees.
