Honeoye Falls-Lima Budget Hearing 2024-05-14

The evening of 2024-05-14 was the Public Budget Hearing and Meet the Candidates event for the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education (BoE).

Alas, despite it being clearly posted almost a year ago, I failed at calendar reading and arrived just as the meeting was ending. On the plus side, and as a silver lining to the covid insanity, the meeting was recorded.

Ironically, I had been thinking how there wasn’t likely to be anything truly new at this meeting. Just a little more polished version of past budget information.

To that point, if you have not kept up to date on the budget process, the presentation is a good summary.

There were some questions from the audience.
On the District’s plan for electric buses. Sounds like this is being looked into, and there is a rough plan. But there is also time to work out details, before the state mandate goes into effect.
On if the budget will go down, as enrollment does. The answer sounded like ‘no’. Primarily due to inflation, but also due to an increase in the ratio of non-teacher staff.
And on sharing more information. Answer was to point at the budget information portion of the District’s website. In particular, the 273 page document that includes all the budget lines.

And those are my Observations From Audience Land (such as they were) for the May 14, 2024 meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education.

Agenda’s and similar information can be found at HFL’s BoardDocs page. While a recording will likely be available soon.
