This years school vote is in three parts. There will be a budget for next year, purchase of school buses, and three positions on the school board. The vote itself will be happening Tuesday May 21, 2024 in the Board of Education room (room 129), which is across the hall from the B-Gym. Nearest doors are off Church Street.
Quick election recommendations:
No to Budget
Yes to Buses
Yes to Candidates (Pick 3 of 3)
Budget
Once again, I think the budget is less about the dollars themselves, and more about your opinion on the District as a whole. Yes, the dollars matter, as that’s what we will be paying. And every dollar NOT spent on taxes is a dollar you could spend on other things. But in the end, if you think the District does it’s job well enough, you’ll likely think the increase is a worthwhile investment.
Buses
While the numbers change, buses are simple enough. This purchase avoids debt, is part of a regular replacement schedule, and is needed for the logistics of the current model. So long as those three things remain true, approving this expense seems better then the alternative.
Board of Education
As we are in a ‘pick three of three’ situation I expect all three candidates will be reelected. I think two of them will do the job well, and having the different opinion of the third has value too.
On the other hand, if you are not satisfied with any of them, you could try organizing a write in candidate. A quick look at past elections implies arranging ~600 votes might work, while ~800 is almost certain. Not something I’ll be doing, but if that’s something you want to work toward, now you know the approximate target you need to reach.
And with that, we have a week to ponder more before the actual election is upon us.
And as said at the top, polling location is the Board of Education room (room 129), which is across the hall from the B-Gym. Nearest doors are off Church Street. Election time is 7AM and 9PM.
