Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education 2024-05-07

The evening of 2024-05-07 was a meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education (BoE).

Things got off to a late start, as the new Espresso machine was being sampled. Seemed a worthy reason to delay, as this purchase was approved at a past Board meeting. Yes, there was also an executive session, which contributed to the delay. But getting everyone a cappuccino (or similar) was the more significant impact.

While this new service hasn’t been available for very long (I heard three days), it’s providing higher income then expected. If the trend continues, it will have paid for itself in under a year. But if the trend increases, and there are reasons to expect that, it might well pay for itself before the end of this school year (or not, as I am speculating).

Which reminds me of something a Dunkin Donuts manager once told me. The donuts pay for themselves, barely. The coffee pays for everything, and then some. To paraphrase, as the exact words have been lost to time.

The annual Budget Hearing will be next week. Also meet the candidates event. I want to say there are only three candidates, all incumbents. But I’ll find out for sure next week.

SEQR for the Capital Outlay Project was declared a Type 2 action. Which means no further review needed. As it should be, simple and to the point. No cruel and all too usual punishment… this time.

There were no ‘review items’ on the Agenda. Which can’t be the first time this has happened, but it feels like it’s rare. Well, apart from the extremely short meeting that happens most summers. Which tends to just be approving the consensus agenda. Mostly for hiring staff for the upcoming year.

While that wasn’t this meeting, there was a consensus agenda (as usual), and it did have some staffing changes (again, as usual). I saw a few names I recognized there. After all, it’s a small world.

And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the May 07, 2024 meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education.

Agenda’s and similar information can be found at HFL’s BoardDocs page. While a recording will likely be available soon.
