The evening of 2023-03-13 was a meeting of the Mendon Town Board.
During this meeting a pair of special meetings were approved. One on March 27 at the Town Hall to update the Comprehensive Plan to better incorporate Short Term Rentals. And the other on March 29 at the Mendon Firehouse to discuss the Fire Protection report. Both meetings are at 7PM, which is more or less ‘normal meeting time’.
While more will come out at the meeting, I did find the quick summary of the Comprehensive Plan update informative. The comparison of hosted vs unhosted was made, and how that translates in function of residential vs business. And from that, what better fits in different parts of the Town. Of course, the devil is ever in the details, so I’m looking forward to reading the proposed changes.
Progress continues on the Spray Park/Military Memorial, although I am uncertain when it will be open. I heard various dates that seemed contradictory. Either way, progress should lead to completion in due time.
Planning the closing of the Youth Center for the summer was discussed. Along with the interesting observation that they haven’t needed to discuss this detail before. Last time, the covid panic forced their hand, no discussion needed. While I don’t think a final decision was made, it sounds like they are looking at May 26, the last school day before Memorial day, as the end of the season. As ideas for special events were tossed around, I wouldn’t be surprised if the details change there. But in a general sense, I wouldn’t count on this service come June. That is until the next school year starts back up.
And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that, yet again, a small portion of the vouchers that were approved went to me. Percentage wise, more went to me then before, simply because the total vouchers, of ~$70k, was lower then in past times. Math can be funny that way. Would you rather 1% of $100, or 100% of $1? Regardless, in the interests of full disclosure, the Town continues to pay me for the work I continue to do for them.
And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the March 13, 2023 meeting of the Mendon Town Board.
