Mendon Town Board 2022-02-14

The evening of 2022-02-14 was a meeting of the Mendon Town Board.

Handful of interesting items discussed, but nothing earthshaking. Unless you will be personally impacted, but even then.

Some discussion about the Governor’s budget and how that will impact accessory housing. Details were vague, but John (Supervisor) has written something more in depth that should be available soon. Likely in the Sentinel or on the Town’s website.

A bid is being solicited for painting and gutter repair at the Town Hall. Sounds like it is the same request from last year, as no one responded to that one. I can’t blame them, as I wouldn’t want to climb up and work on the gutters. But the job will need to be done at some point.

There was a public hearing for the assessment reduction (or whatever you want to call section 466-k) for fire/ambulance volunteers. No real comments, just one of the firemen offering to answer questions. The Board adopted this change. Personally, I’m of mixed thoughts here. On the one hand, supporting those that run towards danger on our behalf is just prudent. On the other, this seems to muddy both the usage of the word ‘volunteer’ and the property tax system. But ‘too mixed to really care’ doesn’t make for a good comment at a public hearing.

The Town can now use email to distribute material to officials. Sounds like this is more officially acknowledging actual practices then making an actual change. But it is good to make sure policy reflects actual practices.

And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the February 14, 2022 meeting of the Mendon Town Board.
