Tonight (2021-08-02) was a Mendon Public Library Board of Trustee meeting.
Meeting was back in the Library, it had been a while since the last time I was there for one of these. Zoom is nice, and definitely has it’s uses. But nothing is quiet the same as being there in person.
On that note, there will likely be a short Zoom meeting Thursday at 7AM to approve sending a Library budget to the Town. Which was the big discussion item of the evening.
It sounds like they are expecting to ask for ~10% over last year’s budget. Standard disclaimer about this all being preliminary, and I may well have misheard some numbers. Having said that, the reasons for the increase seemed to be around fixing long term structural issues as well as returning to pre-panic service levels. Both felt reasonable enough to me.
The other significant item was the new library director, and related topics. The future director was there, unfortunately I missed her last name. First name was Lila (which I’m sure I misspelled). It sounds like she is looking forward to starting the job, and the Board definitely has work to keep her busy with. There will likely be a formal announcement before too long (if there hasn’t been one already).
The Library will be closing early on August 19th, so that the staff can gather for a celebration/goodbye party with the previous director. I hope she enjoys whatever adventure life next has in store for her.
And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the August 02, 2021 meeting of the Mendon Public Library Board of Trustees.
By pattern this would have also been a Village Zoning Board meeting night, but they had no meeting tonight. Which was convenient, no having to decide which to go to.
