Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education 2021-04-27

Tonight (2021-04-27) was a meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education (BoE).

Cougar Pride Awards were celebrated. There were pictures of various people receiving them around the campus, as well as others being named. Good job to everyone doing what they can to make HFL the amazing place it is.

Apparently I am not the only one watching the meeting recordings. Good to know there is an audience. The more people that are aware of what their government is doing, the better. Doubly so when it involves children.

Another month, another capitol project update. As always the pictures were interesting, but tonight was different in that there was also discussion. Long and short of it, the current project is going so well that they may be able to renovate the Middle School Auditorium as well. If that plays out, it is likely to be done September 2022.

Continued restrictions on school operations, and there (perhaps) eventually relaxing was also discussed, again. I think we are well past the point where we need to either get back to ‘normal’ or accept that will never happen and move onto whatever comes next. This constant ‘will we/won’t we’ only distracts from the job that needs to be done. Bravery is needed. As it always has been when challenges occur.

A quick budget presentation was given. There will be a longer one next week, including hearing from the candidates. But to summarize: The budget outlook was bleak, then dark, before the federal stimulus fixed everything. While I can’t fault any of the details, relying on the federal government to solve our problems sounds like a recipe for disaster. That aside…

Proposed budget continues the trend of being (just) below the tax cap. There are 4 candidates running for 3 seats. May 18th will be the vote.

A committee is being created to look into how/if parts of HFL should be named in honor of individual people. Not committing to any particular action, or any action at all. Merely looking into what the future practice could be. Sadly ironic considering recent events.

And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the April 27, 2021 meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education.

Agenda’s and similar information can be found at HFL’s BoardDocs page. While a recording of the meeting will likely be available soon.
