Mendon Town Board 2020-12-14

Tonight (2020-12-14) was a meeting of the Mendon Town Board.

Earlier today I had been part of a conversation about how we don’t want meetings to be exciting. Tonight lived up to that standard. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it was boring, but it definitely wasn’t exciting. As it should be.

The Town is expecting identification badges for Town staff to be finalized in the next month or so. Not quiet there yet, but shouldn’t be much longer. How photo id’s fit in with hiding our faces remains to be seen.

Managing the logistics of ensuring the roads get plowed, even if people are out sick, was discussed. While it had the feel of joking, it was pointed out that at least two of the Town Board members have the appropriate driver licenses, and could fill in as plow drivers. It would be amusing if the Town Supervisor also plowed the roads.

~$432k in vouchers were approved. Of that ~$298k was for roof replacement projects. While this is a decent pile of money, it would be bad if the roofs didn’t work (leaked, collapsed, etc). Not exactly a ‘one time’ expense, but one that shouldn’t be back for a number of years.

There was an update on the ‘Comprehensive Plan Update’. Which is to say, a summary of how progress is going on making adjustments to the plan. End result of this, a public hearing was scheduled for February 8, 2021. I would expect the potential plan to find it’s way onto the Town’s website before then, if you wanted to review it.

As an aside, the presenter was an old schoolmate of mine. While we didn’t get a chance to chat much, as he was there to work, it was nice to see someone I haven’t seen in a while.

December 16th was declared the birthday of ‘Greater Western New York’. Is an interesting concept, and included some historical information. Overall, not really seeing the point. But also not seeing any harm. Perhaps someone will celebrate in a notable way.

And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the December 14, 2020 meeting of the Mendon Town Board.

Link to agenda on Town website until they update it, losing the past.
