Mendon Town Board 2020-11-09

Tonight (2020-11-09) was a meeting of the Mendon Town Board.

While no records were set, the meeting was relatively short and straightforward. As they all should be, long and exciting is a bad combination for a meeting.

From the point of view of those managing the local logistics, the recent election went well. No comments on the national aspects of it. But there were no complaints received about delays, inability to read ballots, etc, unlike in some past years. This matches my experience when I voted. While they were busy, there was negligible delay.

The Town is exploring a new Ambulance contract. Nothing decided tonight, but they have felt the existing one is too convoluted. Relying too much on complex formulas in deciding the Town’s contribution. The potential new contract streamlines this by focusing solely on usage of the service. While it will be interesting to see how this plays out, I see value in simplifying the process.

As for the Fire District, they will be having a significantly higher tax impact next year. As alluded to before, this is because of new radios. As they are mandated, the expense had to be paid. And in turned, is passed on to the taxpayers. Emergency services (police, fire, medical) are important things to have, so we have to live with the bill. Doesn’t mean we have to like all the details involved.

The Town has scheduled a special meeting for December 30, at noon. Likely be a non-event, as the intent is to wrap up end of the year vouchers and such. Seems to happen most every year.

And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the November 09, 2020 meeting of the Mendon Town Board.

Link to agenda on Town website until they update it, losing the past.
