Tonight (2020-03-16) was a meeting of the Honeoye Falls Board of Trustees.
Everything at the meeting was in the shadow of corona. Which was fitting, as that’s what a corona is, a visual effect.
There was discussion and concern about the impacts of COVID-19. To such an extent the Village is “suspending all nonessential operations until further notice“, which apparently includes public meetings. As someone that goes to a number of public meetings, I will be very interested in seeing how this plays out.
The deer management committee is putting together a survey for the public. Not quiet done yet, but shouldn’t be too much longer. They want input around the question of if there are too many deer in the Village. I’m sure there are more nuanced questions then just that, but we’ll have to wait for the actual survey to see what they will be.
The playground at the Monroe street park has been removed and recycled. It feels like it hasn’t been there that long, but the Village did receive it second hand. So I’m not really surprised that it’s outlived it’s usefulness. Still, as was said at the meeting, better it be recycled then land-filled.
A Girl Scout camp out at Rotary park was approved. Likewise, usage of Harry Allen park for National Day of Prayer was approved. Both events in May, so you would think the panic would be over by then. But both events approved with the condition/understanding that the panic might require canceling them.
This whole panic reminds me of the phrase “Cui bono“. Which is to say, who is gaining from this situation? Even if it’s a bad flu, the steps that are being taken so far seem rather extreme. So who, either individually or as a group, is gaining from the situation? I don’t know, but I could speculate. Maybe you could too.
And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the March 16, 2020 meeting of the Honeoye Falls Board of Trustees.
