Tonight (2019-12-09) was a meeting of the Mendon Town Board.
As the year ends, there was talk about staffing for next year. Tom (CEO, etc) has announced his retirement, as have various board/committee members. On top of Bud, as mentioned previously. While the people will be missed, and they can never really be replaced, there is still the challenge of filling the positions.
The Town Board members will be providing hot chocolate (or something similar) during Saturday’s parade. They made it clear that this is NOT the Town providing anything, it is people that happen to be on a Board together. So no taxes used for this expense.
On the other hand ~$44k was approved to buy salt. Taxes spent on keeping the roads clear, not on flavored water. I can’t fault the logic there. We all benefit from the roads being clear, even those who walk most places. Only a few of us benefit from beverages at a parade. Still, it is nice of them, and the others that provide similar treats that evening.
Besides those items, was a pretty straightforward meeting. Previously agreed expenses were approved to pay, annual contracts were renewed, end of year updates, etc. Nothing that exciting, which does make for a short meeting. Although, as I was reading the agenda at the meeting, I was thinking it would be nice if the attached ‘tentative list of possible resolutions’ would also be made available before the meeting. Not a big deal, as that information looks to make it into the future minutes. But if it’s available to be printed, it’s likely available to be put online.
And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the December 9, 2019 meeting of the Mendon Town Board.
Link to agenda on Town website until they update it, losing the past.
