Honeoye Falls Village Board 2019-11-18

Tonight (2019-11-18) was a meeting of the Honeoye Falls Board of Trustees.

Tonight the Town Board also met, but as I have not yet learned the skill of being in more then one place at the same time, I was at the Village Board meeting. Personally, I think the Town should have met last week, despite the holiday. Much like I think the Village should meet on the holidays in January and February. Even as I acknowledge that my schedule is, and should be, a non-factor in meeting planning.

The public hearing to use reserves to cover radio costs for the Fire Department went as expected, approved without any public comment.

There was discussion about a law requiring faster turn around on the ‘discovery‘ phase of legal matters. Doesn’t seem like it will have much direct impact on the village, but there was concern for elsewhere and how that may indirectly impact the budget. While these concerns seemed worthwhile, as the 6th amendment says, “speedy and public trial” is how things are supposed to be done. After all, ‘justice delayed is justice denied‘. If this causes problems, then chase it elsewhere. Either decrease the laws (and thus laws that get broken) or address why people are breaking particular laws. Easier said then done, I know.

The playground in Rotary park is now fixed. Expect an official report of such on the Village’s website and Facebook page soonish.

I’m sure it’s already on all your calendars, but Fireman’s parade is December 14th. Looks to start about 6:30PM, but people tend to show up early. Often are various activities along the route. Open houses, singing, friends and neighbors to chat with, etc.

As with most meetings, various members for the Ambulance and Fire Department were approved. Of note tonight was that Rick (Mayor) reclused himself for one of them. They were family (I’m reasonably certain his son), so this was understandable. Which is how it should be. Pick the right person, but have another, less biased, party make the final call. And Stan (Deputy Mayor) got some more practice acting as the Mayor for those few minutes. So good job all involved.

The annual Living Nativity usage of the park/gazebo was approved for December 22 at 6:30PM. Always of interest to me because Mom ran this event for many a year. Would often help my parents with setup and similar. So I’m glad to see it continue even after they have moved elsewhere. Who knows, they might even make it back to watch the show.

And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the November 18, 2019 meeting of the Honeoye Falls Board of Trustees.
