Tonight (2019-09-16) was a meeting of the Honeoye Falls Board of Trustees.
As mentioned previously, I had two meetings to pick from tonight. As the title of this post gives away, I opted for the Village. For those interested, the Town’s Agenda can be read here. Considering who usually shows up to these meetings, odds are good I’m the only one that cares (or even notices) when they overlap.
Local Girl Scouts will be having a Pumpkin Festival October 12th. Cookies were provided at tonight’s meeting. Were the Girl Scouts being neighborly or leveraging their monopoly on Girl Scout Cookies to bribe the local government? While it’s probably the former, the later is much more amusing.
Tomorrow night will be the last Good Vibes concert for the season. Sounds like they will be starting early as well.
There will be a public workshop on the topic of ‘Deer Management’ at the Village Office Thursday (9-19) at 7PM. Personally, I think this is a non-issue. So long as the deer (rabbits, butterflies, coyotes, etc) fall under the umbrella of ‘cute and fuzzy’, all is good. As soon as they move into ‘pests’, it’s time to take a page from the Daleks. But that’s just me, I’m sure some people have more nuanced views on the subject.
There was discussion on adjusting the ambulance rates for ‘lift assist’ and ‘treat and release’ calls in the Village/Town. Nothing was decided, but the idea was deemed worth looking into some more. Put simply, the view was that the people who are already subsidizing the service (ie taxpayers) shouldn’t be charged too much for what amounts to a helping hand. Yet at the same time, don’t want to charge so little that the ambulance is visiting the same house every day. As with most things, balance is important.
The HFL Interact Club received permission to clean Rotary Park. Which was a no brainer. But I have to wonder, if a group of kids just started picking up trash around the Village, is anyone going to stop them? Perhaps ask questions, maybe even join in. But I don’t see them being stopped.
Tonight was Mike Tobin’s last meeting as Village Attorney. A bittersweet moment, he will be missed.
And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the September 16, 2019 meeting of the Honeoye Falls Board of Trustees.
