Tonight (2019-01-29) was a retreat for the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education (BoE).
I chose not to observe this meeting.
As it was a gathering of the board, and they were not discussing the short list of executive session reasons, by law, the meeting is open to the public. Yet it was a ‘retreat’, which in my mind means the board was withdrawing to sort themselves out. A good practice to do from time to time, for all of us.
Now if they were to conduct activities as a normal business meeting, well that changes things. But the agenda looks to have them pretty focused on self reflection.
While I would like to sit in on what I am sure was an interesting discussion, from my point of view, I, as a member of the public, had no place there. Thus I was not at tonight’s retreat. This is also why I have not shown up at previous retreats.
As has become the norm for this group, Agenda’s and similar information can be found at HFL’s BoardDocs page. Considering the nature of this meeting, I wouldn’t expect much of value, but you are welcome to go and see for yourself.
