Mendon Library Trustees 2026-03-02

The evening of 2026-03-02 was a meeting of the Mendon Public Library Board of Trustees.

The Annual Report (sometimes called the ‘Year in Review’?) was accepted. I’m sure it will be formally shared before too long. But if you want it now, have a link.

Last months kerfuffle with M&T bank has been resolved. Which is good to know. Even if I’m sure everyone involved thinks it took longer then ideal. But alls well that ends well.

Looks like the Library is planning to celebrate their anniversary on June 25th. Also kick off the summer reading program the same day? Which could imply there might well be anniversary events all summer. Either way, I would expect timing details to come out as the date approaches.

A Sustainable Purchasing Policy was approved (with some minor changes). Having said that, it has enough exceptions I could see it being reasonably ignored. So the point goes to the intent. Is this to check an item off a list, for other functions elsewhere, but otherwise not worth worrying about? Or is this a step down the road to further climate culting? Time will tell.

If you have ‘youth’ who are interested in a job, the Monroe County Youth Bureau and/or Rochester Works may be able to help them find employment. Exactly what age bracket counts as ‘youth’ was not said. From context, I would expect High School and maybe a bit more. Either way, the program is available.

And near the end of the meeting, the Library staff were getting ready to close up. So they turned off the TV’s, as usual. Except that one was being used to show the Agenda to the Board. Everything worked out, there were only a few items left. But I suspect habit overruled observation. Happens to all of us at times.

And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the March 02, 2026 meeting of the Mendon Public Library Board of Trustees.

Link to agenda on Library website until they update it, losing the past. But any links to supporting documents will likely remain valid.
