Mendon Library Trustees 2026-02-02

The evening of 2026-02-02 was a meeting of the Mendon Public Library Board of Trustees.

Joe (Supervisor) was attending the meeting, along with Rebecca, the new liaison to the Library. Both gave an overview on their thoughts in regards to the library. As well as listened to the Trustee’s thoughts on various topics.

This group has started using a ‘Consent Agenda’ to approve common actions like Minutes and Agendas. Looks like the same approach the school uses. One of those things that can streamline, which is good. But could also obscure details, if misused. Even with that potential downside, I’m all in favor of more efficient meetings. At least where it can be done practically. And even when it can’t, exploring options is how we find better solutions.

As a number of the Trustee’s are new at their current positions (if not the Board itself), they have been working to get the right names and signing authorities setup with the bank. Unfortunately, M&T bank has not been as efficient as has been desired. Which is a shame. On the plus side, there are other banks in the area.

The big table and chairs are being sent off for refinishing. So if you miss your favorite seat, it might well be back in a few weeks. Not the first time this has happened, probably won’t be the last.

The future of the old Critics property came up again. I will summarize the discussion by saying the Library Trustee’s have concerns and expressed frustration with the information available. Which they have been saying for a while now. So in that regard, nothing new here.

There are plans to work with Causewave on a marketing proposal. Which sounded to me like another way to say ‘fundraising’.

And as tonight was picture night, have a picture… of the camera taking the picture.

And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the February 02, 2026 meeting of the Mendon Public Library Board of Trustees.

Link to agenda on Library website until they update it, losing the past.
