The evening of 2025-12-08 was a meeting of the Mendon Town Board.
There were some comments towards the start of the meeting thanking Cynthia Carroll for her service on the Board. Always nice to hear people being thankful.
And a bit later, Cynthia gave what I guess was a farewell speech. While I don’t have enough information to truly evaluate her concerns, I applaud her for the willingness to make the statement. Considering 4 of the 5 board members will be different in a month, hopefully the topics she has issue with will improve.
There was an amusing chase through paperwork to decide if a particular bill should be paid at $1500 or $1600. If sounds like the Board agreed to pay $1500 if the vendor added the Town to their insurance. And the vendor added a cost to the bill to do that. Thus making it no longer the agreed upon cost/service. On the other hand, the Town was asking the vendor to do more. I do wonder if this is the end of this story, or if the $100 will come up in future meetings.
The Stoney Lonesome Road closure Public Hearing was left open, to allow for additional comments. And from comments made, I suspect more information will be on the Town’s website ‘soon‘.
The 284 Agreement between the Town Board and the Highway Superintendent was agreed to. I only mention this as the current Highway Superintendent (Tom) is not the one who will be caring this out (Peter). Shouldn’t be an issue, as it sounds like the two of them have gone over it. Yet I find the practice of making agreements that others will have to fulfill… interesting.
And the meeting ended with a comment that felt more like an advertisement. The gentleman in question was expressing concerns about Fritzs Patriot Place. Yet I wouldn’t have even known the business’s name if he hadn’t said it. Perhaps a version of the Streisand effect, where trying to remove the business brings more attention to it? And thus the opposite of the desired result? Time will tell (it usually does).
And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the December 08, 2025 meeting of the Mendon Town Board.
