The evening of 2025-11-04 was a meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education (BoE).
Alas, other commitments prevented me from observing the meeting as it occurred. Thankfully the meeting was recorded, and I was able to observe it after the fact.
The meeting started off with the Cougar Pride Award Recipient Recognition. As usual, sounds like a good group of people.
As an aside, the automated transcript during the refreshment break was amusing. It clearly can’t handle multiple people speaking at once very well.
Gene (Superintendent) reported that the High School is one of 17 schools in New York to receive the Blue Ribbon award. He also had an impressive story about how the robotics team manage to fix a circuit board, which was needed to keep a particular bus running.
Continuing the rotation from the past few meetings, the group was in the Middle School. Which meant the Middle School presented. There is a new admin team at this building, and they are impressed with the students. Good to hear how well it is going.
The doors without windows are being upgraded to include windows. For reasons of safety and security, so people can look through the window to see what is in the room before entering. Sounds like this is being done as one of the ~$100k Capital Projects.
The later portion of the meeting was taken up with a workshop on Post-Secondary Goals. Much of the workshop had the Board broken into groups, which puts them away from the microphones. So I can’t comment on that discussion.
But I can say I was glad this is being discussed. Because, at the end of the day, preparing students for life outside of school is the goal. And having a better idea of what that will entail should help reach that goal. In any case, sounds like this is a multi-year plan, so more should be coming on this topic before too long.
And those are my Observations From Audience Land (such as they are) for the November 04, 2025 meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education.
Agenda’s and similar information can be found at HFL’s BoardDocs page. While a recording is also available.
