The evening of 2025-10-28 was a meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education (BoE).
As the rotation continues, tonight was at the Manor school. There was a clear Halloween theme, with Harry Potter elements. Complete with floating candles in the entryway.
Accordingly, Manor gave a presentation, focusing on “Purpose, Path, Product, Praise and Priority”. Which is a lot, but they seem to manage.
The bit about ‘clubs’ stood out to me. And apparently to others too, as there was clarification that these are not official “clubs” with budgets and such. These are more informal recess activities. In any case, what I liked was it created a safe venue to fail. Try to start a club, but it doesn’t work? You’ve failed, yet it’s also a great learning experience. This was even highlighted in the presentation.
Besides that there were reports on the recent NYSSBA Convention. Some interesting tidbits here, but as was pointed out many times, we are grateful HFL doesn’t have many of the problems that were being discussed. Although there is still no relief to the electric bus mandate, that problem we still have.
The Board’s manual is being reviewed, which led to an interesting discussion. My sense of it was trying to improve efficiency, better document what is actually being done, and that sort of thing. Not making big changes, or anything that would directly impact students. Sticking point seemed to be how best to bring in new Board members and get them up to speed. Likely to be discussed a few more times before the change is adopted.
And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the October 28, 2025 meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education.
Agenda’s and similar information can be found at HFL’s BoardDocs page. While a recording is also available.
