As usual this time of year, there is an upcoming election. The actual vote will be held Tuesday November 4th, 2025. For those who also live in Honeoye Falls, the polling station is the Mendon Community Center, known to some as the Legion Hall.
As usual, we have a number of elected positions to vote on, as well as approving (or not) an amendment to the State Constitution.
Up for vote are:
Supervisor: Joe Alati or Brent Rosiek
Member of Town Council: Tanner A Cheek, Danielle Liberatore, Rebecca L Kreuzer, or David Smith. Pick two.
State Supreme Court Justice: David Siguenza, Joe Dinolfo, Darius Lind, or Kristina Kitty Karle. Pick two.
Family Court Judge: Tonia M Ettinger or Mallorie C Rulison.
Running unopposed are:
Todd K Baxter for Sheriff
Michelle Booth for Town Clerk
Thomas G Voorhees for Member of Town Council – 2 Year Term
Peter Doyle for Superintendent of Highways
Amanda Balling for Town Justice
Finally, there is a proposed amendment to the State Constitution. Ballot language could be better, but appears to amend Article 1 Section 14 in regards to skiing in Essex County.
At a quick glance, I have no objections to skiing or expanding parks. But details… Where does the new land for the park come from? Already State owned, but being allocated to parks? Being purchased? Are there no better ways to spend the money? Perhaps most importantly, for a section that has ‘be forever kept as wild forest lands’ in the first sentence, the bulk of the word sure seem to be about providing exceptions.
Section 14 looks to have been amended multiple times before. To such a point I would say it is currently a barely readable mess. I can’t support adding to that overly verbose section. Cleaning it up, perhaps by assigning most of the details to a Parks department, while retaining Legislative and/or Executive oversight? That I could get behind (at least in concept). But that’s not on the ballot.
Now I won’t tell you how to vote. As always, you should do your own research. Find a reliable source or two, ideally talk to the candidates directly. Or failing that, read what they have written, listen to what they have said.
In the interests of full disclosure: I am registered as a Republican. Of course, that does not mean the Republican party endorses anything I have said here. As always, I only speak for myself.
And those are some opinions on this upcoming election. Now you’ve got a week to figure out how you will vote. Assuming you haven’t already done the early voting thing.
