Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education 2025-07-08

The evening of 2025-07-08 was a meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education (BoE).

The meeting started off with the Board choosing Caralyn Ross for their President and Lynley Guckian for their Vice President. So the prediction I made last month was half right.

Gene (Superintendent) gave a short report that touched upon finances from the Federal government. Not the first time he’s offered updates like this. I can’t really fault him, because paying attention to things that impact the District is kind of his job (or at least part of it). But he comes across rather pessimistic while doing so. Or it could just be me. Either way, less money from the Federal government then was expected during budget time. If I heard right, ~$100k less. In the scale of a ~$64 million budget, not the end of the world. But… the more of these hits, the harder it gets to absorb.

As it was the reorganization meeting, there were many agenda items. But a number of them were consolidated, in comparison to how it was done last year. Personally, I liked the format change. But it’s the Board’s opinion here that matters. Regardless, I’ll give them credit for trying something new.

For my own amusement, I pulled up last years recording to see what sort of time impact this change made. Last years total recording was ~1:30, while this years was ~1:06. But that’s not an apples to apples comparison, as the rest of the Agenda had variations. Both in item counts, as well as discussions during those items.

A more accurate comparison would be of just the consolidated Agenda items. In other words, items 10-15. On both Agenda’s, as it looks like they shared a template. But as there was some framing in 9, I’ll start counting there. And stop when they reached ‘Approval of Standard Work Day Hours by ERS Position Employees’, as that’s just after the matched consolidation stopped (2024 15O, 2025 15D).

  2024 2025
Start 28:21 20:39
End 53:46 28:44
Time Taken 25:25 8:05

17:20 shorter. Or about a third of the time taken for that section of the Agenda. In the grand scheme of things, not the most amazing of accomplishments. But when the meetings tend to fall in the 1-2 hour ballpark, a decent decrease in meeting length.

And yes, I probably spent more time analyzing the difference here then the time saved. Eh, it amused me.

And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the July 08, 2025 meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education.

Agenda’s and similar information can be found at HFL’s BoardDocs page. While a recording is also available.
