The evening of 2025-05-05 was a meeting of the Mendon Public Library Board of Trustees.
The electric vehicle charging station is currently offline. By the sounds of it, this is a temporary issue due to changing companies running the backend. No time as to when it will be working again, apart from hopefully ‘soon‘.
The pending Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) shutdown (or not) was discussed. I offer no opinion on the topic itself. But the discussion did remind me of a video about the penny. Relevant part is the idea that, while congress created something by statute, if it did so in a vague enough manner, the president might well have the power to shut it down. Which is to say, if a budget line for IMLS is mandated, but the number is ‘whatever the president thinks is proper’ (or something similar)? Well 0 (zero) is technically a number. Mind you, I have not read the relevant legislation here. I just find the parallels interesting.
The former Critics property came up again. After the Village’s decision to survey it, with the purpose of redrawing lines, the Library was interested in what that could mean for them. The Library is concerned about potential future construction in front of their building, and is trying to figure out what they can do about it. Overall, it felt like there was too little information to make meaningful conclusions here. Unless the Library (or someone acting on their behalf) wanted to buy the property from the Village.
Plans are being made for a 15th anniversary party, of the Library operating out of it’s current building. No concrete details yet, as it’s very much in the planning phase. Or gathering people to do the planning…
And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the May 05, 2025 meeting of the Mendon Public Library Board of Trustees.
