The evening of 2025-04-28 was a meeting of the Mendon Town Board.
The purpose of tonight’s meeting was to appoint Tom Voorhees as temporary Highway Superintendent. But I really can’t comment on that without saying something about what happened to the previous Highway Superintendent.
At the surface level, the Town Board asked Andy (former Highway Superintendent) to resign, and he did.
I can’t say I truly know what happened. But I’ve read the available documents, I’ve observed many meetings, and I’ve interacted with everyone involved a decent amount over the years. From all of that, I feel comfortable reaching two conclusions on this topic.
First, Andy misbehaved. And second, the bar for what constitutes ‘misbehaved’ is too low. These items are only tangentially related, I offer no opinion on whether Andy would have met a better calibrated threshold of ‘misbehavior.’
More then that, I really don’t feel I know enough to say. Certain details don’t completely make sense to me. But I don’t need them to, as I’m merely an observer here.
All that being said, I hope Andy does well at whatever he is off to next. And I hope Tom does a good job as the next Highway Superintendent.
On a slightly different topic, hopefully the time sensitive parts of this have now been resolved, and we can go back to more regularly scheduled meetings. I understand doing what needs to be done as the situation demands. But I like regular schedules.
And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the April 28, 2025 meeting of the Mendon Town Board.
