Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education 2024-11-19

The evening of 2024-11-19 was a meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education (BoE).

Time again for the robotics team to give their annual report. While the report itself is interesting enough, it’s the robot demonstration afterwards that seems to be the crowd pleaser. In the report the team was asking for help with finding more sponsors and a dedicated practice space. They are working with the Village for space, potentially using the auditorium above the Village office. As for sponsors, if you know anyone, I’m sure they would like to hear from you.

Following the trend from the past few meetings, the Middle School gave their update. They pointed out their good grades, but also mentioned that had been covered ad nauseam by other groups, so didn’t dwell on it.

As they have in the past, they focused on their connectedness. A worthy enough goal, but when the policies were discussed later, I wondered how much of this is to avoid the need for lockdowns. In other words, is there a deliberate effort to encourage connections in order to avoid violent action. Or is that potential gain accidental?

The students speaking on behalf of the Middle School were entertaining. What stood out the most to be were the comments on the benefits of being forced NOT to use cell phones. Which is to say, having nothing else to do, the students interacted with each other. Perhaps a lesson we should all learn. Or relearn, as the case may be.

As is often the case, there was a Treasurer’s report. I only mention this as the fund balance sits at ~$20 million. Likely a side effect of tax collection having recently finished. As the saying goes, it’s all downhill from here.

A number of policies were reviewed, likely to be adopted at the next meeting. Apart from the volume, nothing really stood out to me on them.

And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the November 19, 2024 meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education.

Agenda’s and similar information can be found at HFL’s BoardDocs page. While a recording is also available.
