The evening of 2023-11-14 was a meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education (BoE).
Tonight was Cougar Pride Award Recipient Recognition. An annual occurrence that brings a time to chat with the various people that are recognized. Also cookies, which were amusingly enough in the shape of cougar paws.
Gene (Superintendent) covered a number of interesting points during his report. One of which was pointing out that 4 HFL families have lose their housing recently. He couldn’t go into too much detail, for privacy reasons. But it does serve as a reminder, with Thanksgiving approaching, we should always be thankful for what we do have. As the saying says, ‘there but for the grace of God go I‘.
He also covered the ongoing Capital Project. While he went over all that is being done, the way he highlighted the involvement of the Village and Town stood out to me. In particular, that the Village and Town have no involvement. HFL, as a school district, is completely outside of local zoning, permits, etc. But that doesn’t mean they are unregulated. It just moves those function to the State Education Department, and something called ‘Part 155‘. Whether that is good or bad could be debated. But the School does have to answer to someone for their construction projects.
And tonight was the Annual Special Education and Student Attendance reports. Interesting enough, both ladies giving the reports are new to the job. Fair bit of turn over of late.
And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the November 14, 2023 meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education.
Agenda’s and similar information can be found at HFL’s BoardDocs page. While a recording will likely be available soon.
