The evening of 2023-08-08 was a meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education (BoE).
The meeting started off with some technical difficulties, which might well have been the most interesting part of the meeting. At least for me, as I provide support for that sort of thing as part of my occupation. So it was interesting watching how the older Board members helped the newer Board members work through the issues.
Tax Rates were approved. If I understand what was described, the rates dropped for most towns, because assessments were up. End result is likely to be an increase in how much you pay in taxes. By ~1.94% overall, even if your actual numbers vary.
There was discussion around the District’s Mission and Vision. Reading between the lines, I would expect the Board to end up reviewing this more at some point this year, with a committee to suggest changes sometime next year. But as was pointed out, last time they reviewed it, the conclusion reached was it fit rather well and there was no need to make changes.
And during the ‘Public Comment’ portion of the meeting I tried to talk the Board into making it easier for the public to comment at these meetings. Time will tell how well I did. I can work with the existing system well enough, but I’m there all the time. For someone who is at their first Board meeting, and wants to say something to the Board? I think the easier that process is the better. For the commenter, yes, but also the Board as well. We are (or at least should be) all on the same side here.
And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the August 8, 2023 meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education.
Agenda’s and similar information can be found at HFL’s BoardDocs page. While a recording will likely be available soon.
