The evening of 2023-06-12 was a meeting of the Mendon Town Board.
There was a surprisingly large crowd at the meeting. While a few people spoke up on keeping the tennis courts just that, that didn’t seem to account for the number of people. Yet they didn’t seem to be drawn by anything else. All good either way, the more the merrier. I just wonder what causes people to join me in the audience…
The Military Memorial was dedicated yesterday, and it seemed to have gone well. Pictures of the event are available on both the Town’s website and Facebook (probably elsewhere too, but those are the locations I am aware of). American Legion Post 664 donated ~$36k to help pay for this, and the Town Board gratefully accepted.
Next to the Memorial, the Splash Park has been closed down for safety concerns. On the one hand, we are too safety conscious. Our parents and/or grandparents would wonder what was wrong with us. On the other, it sounds like there is a serious enough issue. And nobody wants kids to break themselves if there is a workaround. So closed while workarounds are explored. Reading between the lines, it sounds like there are some ideas, but not yet nailed down to the point timelines can be shared.
Last Friday, June 9th was Anthony Noto day. Not a name I was familiar with, but apparently an accomplished athlete. Good for him.
Construction season is here again, as demonstrated by this months vouchers. The largest items were asphalt and concrete.
At a previous meeting the Town started looking into getting their tennis courts painted to also be usable for pickle-ball. There was enough outrage that tonight they dropped the idea. I didn’t hear a formal motion, but John (Supervisor) did say he wasn’t looking for bids. No bids, no paintings. Now I just need to remember who it was that asked me about this topic, so I can tell them the outcome…
Four local laws were approved, making various changes to the Town Code. All were unchanged from when presented at previous public hearings. I doubt anyone will care about #3 and #4, but #1 and #2 address short term rentals and such. The Board was divided on those, and there was some discussion about being too restrictive while not allowing all scenarios. Which is an interesting contrast if you think about it. Either way, as was pointed out by the Board, anyone can ask for a variance from the Zoning Board if they want. Full disclosure, I am on the Zoning Board.
