The evening of 2022-06-13 was a meeting of the Mendon Town Board.
Relatively straightforward meeting. Much of which involved moving money around to fund previously planned activities.
Money was moved from various budget lines, as well as reserves, to fund the Splash Park. Four of these transfers are subject to permissive referendums. So anyone that is against this has about a month to get their opposition filed. Not suggesting anyone do so, merely pointing out the legal opportunity.
In addition to the funds, the septic for the splash park was adjusted. Sounds like it will use better technology to take up a smaller footprint, for the same cost. Kind of hard to argue with that.
The contract with Andy (Highway Superintendent) for road work was amended, due to inflation. Looks like ~$54k increase, which is ~15 percent. The original plan already had a buffer for expenses to go up. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough.
And in case we are out of examples of government mailing out money causing trouble, there is apparently a Homeowner tax rebate credit (HTRC). As enough people have asked, information is available on the Town’s website. While it’s great to get money in the mail, government has only one way to get the money it gives out. Take it from us. Whether that’s directly through taxes (and similar), or indirectly through inflation (and similar), doesn’t change it’s still being taken. I’d rather government stay away from my money, then grabbing and giving as the mood strikes.
A Citizens Advisory Committee to review Future Fire Service was established. While anyone can show up to meetings and watch, seats at the table are limited. If you want one of those seats, reach out to John (Supervisor) about joining the group.
And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the June 13, 2022 meeting of the Mendon Town Board.
