Tonight (2022-01-03) was a meeting of the Mendon Town Board.
Once again time for the annual organizational meeting. Many agenda items, which do have to be addressed for the Town to continue to function, but little of interest. As with so many things in life, it’s continuing the path and doing the day to day work that matters. Not how glamorous the work is (or isn’t).
Due to the continued panic around a disease that appears to have stopped killing people in meaningful numbers, Town, Planning, and Zoning Board meetings will be at the Community Center this year.
Salaries and wages were approved. Does not appear to be any surprises here, although it was stated that it was ~4% increase from last year. I’m suspect it was the same numbers as were in the approved budget. And no, I did not do the math myself.
On paper, more Town staff are now eligible for mileage reimbursement. In practice I doubt this will be a significant change. The same positions were approved, and the qualifiers for anyone else are restrictive enough they shouldn’t come into play often. At least that’s how I understand it, wouldn’t be the first time a well intentioned policy change had negative repercussions down the road.
A number of un-elected Board positions were appointed (or reappointed, as the case may be). With Brent on the Town Board, his position on Planning had to be filled. I’m still on Zoning, although we will have a new member when next we meet.
And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the January 03, 2022 meeting of the Mendon Town Board.
