Honeoye Falls Village Board 2022-01-18

The evening of 2022-01-18 was a meeting of the Honeoye Falls Board of Trustees.

There was a bit of a crowd, the majority of which was Scouts working towards their citizenship badge. Enough that fitting us all in the normal meeting room would have been a challenge, even without the ongoing panic. Not sure if that was why the meeting was moved to Zoom, but either way it worked well enough.

Rick (Mayor) reiterated the Village has Department of Environmental Conservation approval to dump snow in the creek. I can’t say if this was due to actual complaints, or anticipated ones. Realistically, it’s all going to end up in the creek when it melts. Just a question of how quickly. On a personal note, I do like watching them do the dumping.

The Village is considering closing the office for a few days so that staff can help distribute test kits. Nothing concrete, as they don’t have the tests yet, but we may hear something before too long. Is an interesting idea. Consistent with the idea of ‘public servants’, even if the method is a bit different.

The efforts of the Fire Department at the recent Seneca Place fire was applauded. Also the police, but they didn’t have a representative at the meeting. Good to hear everyone made it out ok, even if not everyone is back in their apartments. While tragedies are tragic, they do provide opportunities for us to help each other.

I wasn’t surprised to hear last year had the highest ambulance call volume ever. This year is young, but on path for another record. There was also something about FEMA assisting regional ambulances and 911 performing ‘diversions’. Didn’t completely make sense to me, so I could have this wrong. But it sounds like there are so many ambulance calls in the area that outside help and additional triage is needed. I do wonder as to the cause. Is the pandemic worse then I thought? A people panicking more? Is it a side effect of firing unvaccinated medical staff? Or something else altogether? I wouldn’t know, but it sounds bad. If nothing else it serves as a reminder that we should ‘fear no evil‘, despite the ‘shadow of death’ in our lives.

And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the January 18, 2022 meeting of the Honeoye Falls Board of Trustees.

Agenda was not available anywhere I could find. Perhaps it will be on the Village’s website in the future, perhaps not…
