Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education 2021-04-13

Tonight (2021-04-13) was apparently a meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education (BoE).

I’ve been informed by a reliable source that the public is not allowed to attend meetings. While I hope this changes soon, it did open the way to changing my plans for the evening. Which means I have no useful observations for the meeting itself.

As the agenda (and other documents) were available through BoardDocs before the meeting, I can offer a few thoughts on them.

Budget Overview was on the Agenda. Looks like a tax levy limit of 1.97%, while the total budget is increasing 4.04%. I can’t dispute any of the numbers, but my gut feeling is they don’t add up and we are making a bigger problem for next year. Likely be explained away be using reserves.

As for the actual vote, the date was listed as “Date to be determined.” Hopefully it will be less of a debacle then last year.

I figure I’ll watch the recording later (perhaps tomorrow), see what was discussed. While the recordings are required by Executive Order 202.1 if the Board meets remotely, I think they are also a good idea in general. I am glad they are doing this and give the school credit for it. This practice should continue indefinitely. Having said that, I’ve yet to see a transcript.

While I think transcripts are a waste of time, I would think the hassle of being ‘open and transparent’ by allowing the public into the room would be worth avoiding the transcribing requirement. That it also follows the open meeting law (as opposed to a temporary executive order) is a bonus.

I freely admit I’m biased on this topic. But I think we all should be biased about government following the law.

And those are my … thoughts from reading the documents before … the April 13, 2021 meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education.

As has become the norm for this group, Agenda’s and similar information can be found at HFL’s BoardDocs page. While a recording of the meeting will likely be available soon.
