Mendon Library Trustees 2019-10-07

Tonight (2019-10-07) was a Mendon Public Library Board of Trustee meeting.

I don’t get to many of these meetings, so it is nice when scheduling lines up for it.

Before the Trustees met, the Friends of the Library were meeting. As I walked in towards the end of that meeting, I can’t really say much there. Sounds like they were planning a party for someone. I lacked context, but I hope it goes well for them.

As for the Trustee meeting itself, it was reasonable short and straightforward. There was some discussion about how/when to go over Strategic Plan updates. The Library approved their budget, which is a portion of the Town’s budget, so (in theory) they could need to adjust depending on how that plays out.

The big conversation of the meeting was about garbage. Indirectly parking too, but the focus was really on trash. As with many in the community, the Library has garbage pickup on Tuesday. But when the rear driveway is blocked by another vehicle, the garbage man doesn’t come up the driveway. They just drive on by.

So there was conversation around how to make sure the Monroe Street driveway remains open on Tuesday. And if not, that whoever is blocking it moves the trash out to the road.

This could have interesting implications for the pending Recreation Center in the old Library building. This driveway is the obvious place for people to park if they are using that building. Without it parking is limited. Side of the road works to a point, as would the Library parking, but neither are ideal. I’m sure they will find a way to juggle the competing needs, eventually.

And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the October 7, 2019 meeting of the Mendon Public Library Board of Trustees.
