Honeoye Falls Planning Board 2018-10-01

Tonight (2018-10-01) was a meeting of the Honeoye Falls Planning Board.

Unlike last meeting, there were only two items on the agenda (not counting minutes). Due to the nature of these items, there weren’t going to be any decisions made tonight. Ironically enough, while it was a short agenda, it was a long discussion.

First agenda item was Muffy, again. As the comment period has closed, all comments (including the one from 11:44 this morning) were combined with the rest of the paperwork to be distributed and reviewed. If I was an optimist, I would expect there to actually be a final decision on this topic at the next meeting (November 5th). Unfortunately, it’s has felt like too much stall and delay for me to expect that. We’ll see what happens nest month.

The other agenda item was Ken talking about plans for 22 East st. Full disclosure: Ken is my landlord, therefor I am biased on this topic. Having said that…

Ken acquired the red building not that long ago, and from the state it’s in, he wants to demolish it. Having stuck my head in the door a few times, I’ll agree it’s not in very good shape. A shame it can’t be patched up, but I’m not surprised repairs aren’t cost effective.

It didn’t sound like he had solid plans for the future, which is why this was ‘concept’ instead of ‘approval’. I got the impression he was leaning towards a parking lot, primarily because it’s simple and he needs the spaces for his existing buildings. But he clearly was not opposed to other ideas, just so long as he doesn’t have to be involved in management details.

The bulk of the discussion was almost a brainstorming session for what could be done once the building is down, and how those various ideas could be funded/managed. I think the bridge and/or creek side walking path is the best idea, but it is ever in the implementation where it fails (or succeeds, as the case may be).

Another case of ‘wait and see’. I look forward to how this one will turn out. By the sounds of it, so does Ken, but in the meantime, he has soup to make.

And those are my Observations From Audience Land for the October 1, 2018 meeting of the Honeoye Falls Planning Board.
